Dot Twiglets

Ever since I enquired about buying the domain names twiglets.com and twiglets.net every now and again I get an email from the .net owners asking me if I'm still interested in buying - for an ever decreasing price. Today, I was offered the domain again. I'm not interested. I like the one I've got. However, it did get me thinking about how things might have changed to the Google search rankings for the keyword Twiglets since I launched this here blog. Well, things have changed although I doubt it has much to do with awholelotofcrunch.com. Look below to see where things stood just over a year ago,

If we don't count the ads, twiglets.com comes in seventh and twiglets.net is nowhere to be seem. Now, let's travel forwards in time and see where things are today,

Awholelotofcrunch replaces twiglets.com at the number seven spot. In fact .net and .com are nowhere to be seen for pages and pages. Even my Twiglets flickr set comes in at number 10. So, there you have it; half an hour of blogging per month and Google loves you :)

It's called the Internet, maybe you've heard of it.

Google search for Twiglets and what do you get? Well, you don't get Twiglets for a start. First up, you get two online shops selling British grub, then comes wikipedia followed by snackfood review sites, another shop and then... finally... www.twiglets.com The website is one of those crappy internet polls, nothing more. But, do a domain owner search and you quickly find out that twiglets.com isn't owned by United Biscuits at all. It's owned by a company called Business Foresights. And it doesn't stop at twiglets dotcom. Twiglets.net is owned by BuyDomains.com, but hey they'll sell it to you for a mere $2,688. The only other twiglets domain that's already owned is twiglets.co.uk. It points to a commercial photographer's website. I've emailed both the .com and .co.uk owners to see if a) they'd sell and b) how much for.

This brings up a couple of questions,

• Do United Biscuits have any legal ownership over the domain name Twiglets? If it's a registered trademark then I believe they do. But, is it a trademark? I dunno.

• United Biscuits are not just nowhere on an internet search for Twiglets, they don't even make an effort on their own website. Try finding a mention of Twiglets at www.unitedbiscuits.co.uk Go on, try. If it exists I couldn't find it. So, why are United Biscuits so unbelievably crappy on the net?
