The mysterious disappearance of Jacob's Worcester Sauce flavoured Twiglets - SOLVED
The petition to bring back Worcester sauce flavoured Twiglets tips the 100 mark. However, according to United Biscuits - who haven't got the first idea that the petition even exists - it is doomed to failure. In a formal statement prepared by the Twiglets Brand Manager and relayed to me over the phone the faceless Twiglets flavour slayers of United Biscuits tell us,
Twiglets are a much loved wholewheat snack and they've been a consumer favourite for over 70 years.
In 2005 a limited edition Worcester Sauce variety was produced as a way of providing consumers with an alternative taste to the usual Twiglets. This was only a limited edition and there are no plans to reintroduce it in the near future.
However, we do constantly review the product range that we have to try and show we meet the demands of our customers and we are looking at other product lines at the moment.
That's as far it goes yeah?
I know you were saying [in previous calls] what do we do in terms of listening to people. We have a dedicated consumer care line and we print that number on the back of the packets of our products so that if anyone wants to get in touch with us to let us know what they think about what we make then they can get in touch with us that way. We always listen to their feedback.
It's actually quite a short lifespan for the Worcester sauce flavoured Twiglets and no plans to bring them back...
No plans, no. But if you look at other parts of our product range for example McCoy's Crisps and we do from time to time do seasonal changes in flavour as well as our traditional product range we introduce new flavours at diffeent time sof the year and try and gauge people's reaction to it. So, we're always looking at ways of introducing new flavours, but of course consumers tastes change all the time. So, as well as continuing with our core products we will look at different flavour varieties from time to time.
Have you got any details about the sales numbers?
I haven't, but it's very unlikely we would have released that anyway.
But, it was always seen as a short term thing then.
It was. Absolutely.
So, there you have it. No more Worcester Sauce flavoured Twiglets. May I also add it took no less than eight phone calls to get just this much information... But don't let that put you off. Go ahead and sign the petition. Shit happens.
UPDATE: First reactions are not good,
"Truely this is a great shame for all mankind. I feel i have wasted my time searching all supermarkets for these wonderful products, and some how worcester sauce poured in a bag of twiglets just doesn’t cut it. Jacobs you should be ashamed of yourselves, I hope I never meet any of you in a dark tunnel. I will never eat another twiglet again" Gus.

I need these products, what about the curry flavour, I guess they were only temporary as well.

I think it's safe to assume Curry flavour went the same way. I'll look into it. The only saving grace of all this is the line,
"we are looking at other product lines at the moment"
Let's hope for more, longer and tasty. I'll also add some thoughts on this whole debacle in a day or so. But, basically, I really think srisp manufacturers in general and UB in particular really need to listen to their customers a bit more.
if more than 100 folk have signed a petition to bring back WS Twiglets, it's reasonable to assume there are 1000's more - who are not net savvy - who are equally bamboozled as to why the things disappeared and, indeed, when.

I agree, what the Hell are Jacobs doing, pulling the Tangy favourites. I have searched everywhere for these since returning from the states at the beginning of the year.
I never remember seeing the words Limited Edition on the packets!! All very odd...
Please, Please, return them to the shop shelves.

I moved to Australia 18 months ago and just assumed that along with many other familiar products, Worcestershire sauce flavoured Twiglets just hadn't made the move down under. So what started was 18 fruitless months of begging relatives to search for tham on my behalf and search they did!
Why UB would mess with their customers eating habits by introducing and then retiring much loved flavours I don't understand unless of course their sales volumes didn't hit the required level.
Ah well, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope that at the very least they bring them back for Christmas next year!

Oh thank god this has finally been cleared up!
The wife has been dragging me round supermarket to supermarket week in and week out looking for these Twiglets!
This will be the first weekend in 3 years we're not looking for Worcestershire sauce flavored Twiglets.
Thank you for letting me have my weekend back ..
They did taste great though !!!

yes its true, I have been driving my hubby mad and have been making him reach behind all the other twiglets in the supermarkets to make sure they are not hiding - I am devastated. I can't believe they stopped making them in 2005!!

I'm thinking (as the ever positive one) that worcester sauce twiglets may return at some stage in the future. Does anyone remember meanies crisps? pickled onion little alien shaped crisps in a green packet. Well I havent seen them for
about 20 years. Anyway I was in a random shop in town a couple of weeks ago and there was a shelf stacked as high as you like with them!!!!! It was almost as though they had dropped out of the sky and landed there. So, although i have strayed from the original talking point of the worcester sauce twiglets (which i still yearn for as a pass the old timers original flavour), i reckon we shouldnt give up hope just yet.
Eternal optomistwigletfan.

I am pleased to find other Worcestershire Sauce Twiglets lovers out there. I loved them and can no longer enjoy regular Twiglets - taste like cardboard to me now (and I like Marmite).
So, definitely no more Tangy/Wcs Twiglets? HMPH!

Where can we buy twiglets in Belgium or The Netherlands(low budget so as a few years ago)? (Or where can I find the recept of twiglets) We buyed them in Amsterdam, but I don't like to do 2hours by car to get them
Please why don't you come back in the supermarkets in Belgium????????????

I emailed them about bringing them back also....Life isn't the same without them :/.
Scampi Fries are the only thing to rival them in taste and they come in tiny packets.
